Chanel's Spring 2013 collection showcased rather a unusually shaped, colossal white quilted leather purse anchored between to two giant black hula hoops. We're intrigued, we're amused, and, perhaps most of all, we're confused.
Paired with a swimsuit on the runway at Paris Fashion Week, we assumed this Chanel bag was intended for the beach. After seeing it, many wondered–why is it so big? Does it fold out into a bicycle? Can it be used as a chic lean-to in inclement weather?
Well, Karl Lagerfeld himself decided to clear the issue up.
He said in an interview : 'The bag is for the beach! You need space for the beach towel. Then you can put it into the sand and hang things on it.'
If Kim Kardashian can park her Hermes Birkin in the sand, we suppose the 1% can bring giant Chanel bags to the shore too. But this thing is Huge. The diameter of this hula hoop purse was estimated at around three feet.
Most people probably assumed that it would never see the light of production, but never underestimate the humor behind Kaiser Karl.
